Homestead On Eleven is a proud, family-owned homestead nestled in the peaceful foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Rooted in legacy, shaped by service, and driven by a love for the land, we strive to live simply, intentionally, and sustainably.
Gene, a combat veteran who served three tours in Iraq, brings the discipline, resilience, and commitment that define our way of life. After enlisting in the Army following the events of September 11, 2001, he was medically retired in 2015 due to injuries sustained in service. His transition from soldier to steward of the land has been one of deep purpose and healing.
Dana grew up just a stone’s throw away in Sunset, South Carolina, the home they currently live in and the land it’s on has been in her family since 1947. Dana’s mother initially inherited the home and three acres and together with her parents and Gene, they purchased an additional 14 acres surrounding the home. In the fall of 2024, Dana’s mother was diagnosed with breast cancer and made the heartfelt decision to pass the home to Dana—not only to keep it in the family, but to allow Dana and her daughter Georgia to be close by during her treatment journey.
The heart of our homestead is shared—physically and spiritually. The garden you’ll see in our photos is held in a family trust with Dana's mom and her mom's siblings, while raised beds and poultry flocks make up the thriving pulse of our own corner of the property. Every seed we sow and every chore we take on is a step toward self-reliance and environmental stewardship.
Our daughter Georgia was born in Fort Benning, Georgia, and raised in Phenix City, Alabama. A bright and determined young woman, she’s homeschooled and already well on her way to a college degree through dual enrollment. She’ll be a senior in high school in the fall of 2025 and plans to start college full-time in 2026.
At Homestead On Eleven, we believe in preserving the past, honoring the sacrifices that built our present, and cultivating a better future—for our family, our community, and the land that sustains us.
